How to play
Goal
Find every word on the list hidden in the grid of letters.
How it works
- Words run in a straight line. On the small grid they go right, down or diagonally down. On bigger grids they can also run backwards and upwards.
- Press on the first letter of a word and drag to its last letter, then let go. Or tap the first letter, then tap the last one.
- A word you find stays coloured and is crossed off the list.
- The game counts your tries (every line you check). Try to find every word first time.
Tips
- Look for the rarest letter of a word (such as Z, K or J) first, then check the letters around it.
- Words can cross each other and share letters.
- Scan one row at a time, then one column at a time.
The history of Word Search
The first word search is credited to Norman E. Gibat, who published one in a small newspaper in Norman, Oklahoma, in 1968. The puzzle spread quickly to newspapers and magazines, and became one of the best-loved pastimes for children and adults alike. It trains the eye to scan for patterns, which is why teachers still use it to practise spelling.
