Goal
Slide the cars and trucks out of the way so the coral car can drive out of the gap on the right.
How it works
- Cars only move forwards and backwards in the direction they face: sideways cars slide left and right, upright cars slide up and down. Nothing turns.
- Swipe a car to slide it. Swipe further to slide it further. Or tap a car: if it can only go one way, it moves one square.
- Each slide counts as one move. Try to match the fewest possible.
- Levels 1 to 8 get harder, from 4 moves to 30.
Tips
- Work backwards: which cars block the coral car's path, and what blocks those?
- Trucks are long and need lots of space. Plan early where each one can go.
- Sometimes you have to move the coral car backwards to make room.
The history of Traffic Jam
Sliding-car puzzles were popularised by Japanese puzzle master Nob Yoshigahara in the 1970s, and became a world-famous boxed puzzle in the 1990s. They are a favourite way to teach planning ahead.
