How to play
Goal
Pitch exactly one tent next to every tree.
The rules
- Each tree has its own tent, directly above, below, left or right of it (not diagonally).
- Tents never touch each other, not even at the corners.
- The numbers along the top and left say how many tents are in that column or row.
How it works
- Tap an empty square to put a tent there. Tap again to mark it as grass (a small dot), meaning “no tent here”. Tap once more to clear it.
- Tents that touch get a red outline. A number fades when its row or column has the right count, and turns red if there are too many.
- Every puzzle has exactly one solution.
Tips
- Start with the zeros: mark every square in those rows and columns as grass.
- Squares not next to any tree can never hold a tent. Mark them as grass too.
- Once you place a tent, all eight squares around it become grass.
- A tree with only one open neighbour has its tent decided.
The history of Tents
Tents puzzles are usually credited to Leon Balmaekers in the Netherlands, around 1989. They became popular in puzzle magazines across Europe and are also known as Tents and Trees.
