Cards left 52Stock 27Best –
How to play
Goal
Remove all 52 cards by pairing them up.
How it works
- Twenty-five cards are dealt face up in a five by five grid. Tap two cards of the same number that touch, including corner to corner, to remove them both.
- When you have made the pairs you can, tap Fill gaps: the remaining cards slide up and left to close the gaps, and new cards from the stock fill the empty spots at the end.
- Keep going until the whole deck is gone (you win) or no pair can be made. Your score is the cards left: lower is better.
Tips
- Before you fill the gaps, look for pairs that will touch once the cards slide together.
- Removing a card from the middle of the grid opens up more neighbours than one at the edge.
- Three of the same number can only pair once, so decide which two to take.
The history of Monte Carlo
Monte Carlo is a patience game whose name is borrowed from the casino town. Its twin, Double or Quits, deals the grid differently, and the same idea of pairing neighbours appears in many card and tile games.
