How to play
Goal
Put the numbered tiles back in order, 1 to 15, reading left to right and top to bottom, with the gap in the bottom-right corner.
How it works
- Tap a tile next to the gap to slide it in.
- Tap any tile in the same row or column as the gap and the whole line slides together.
- On a keyboard, the arrow keys slide a tile into the gap.
- A tile turns peach when it is in its correct place.
- Choose 3×3 for a short puzzle or 5×5 for a long one. Every shuffle can be solved.
Tips
- Solve the top row first, then the second row. After that, never disturb finished rows.
- Finish the last two rows column by column, from left to right.
- Placing the last two tiles of a row is easiest if you park them one below the other first, then rotate them in together.
The history of 15-Puzzle
The puzzle swept the United States and Europe in 1880. Puzzle writer Sam Loyd later offered a large prize for swapping the 14 and 15. Nobody won, because exactly half of all arrangements can never be solved.
